I have just attended the launch event in Brazil WebSphere sMash, IBM's headquarters there.
In short, the idea seemed very good, much still needs to evolve sMash and IBM and the community involved in the development conditions have left over to make it happen. In one of the videos I found, Project Zero is called a Community-Driven Development. Sounds good does not it? ![]()
That same video talks on: Complexity Zero, Zero Obstacles, Zero Overhead.
Well, I confess that I went there hoping to see something like Yahoo Pipes and Google Mashup, with all the ease of creation and integration, added the ability to install it within a corporate environment. What I saw was something very simple to install, use, and so simple that it seemed, did not fit my expectations immediately.
Well, I will not blame the software, the presentation was too fast and was more focused on the concepts that led them to develop the product, than the demonstration of outstanding ability, that was what I expected.
How good a curious, coming home was the site of ProjectZero.org and came across something much more interesting than the one shown at the event. A description of how to integrate it into google gadgets: Powering Google Gadgets with WebSphere sMash
And with a series of videos on Youtube showing it in action, as below:
Project Zero: To Install Hello World
Project Zero: Application Builder Intro Part 1
Project Zero: Application Builder Intro Part 2
Extending SugarCRM with ProjectZero / WebSphere sMash
ZSL talks about IBM WebSphere sMash
Anyway, it was clear that the sMash was very well thought of as the main objective to be something simple, in all respects.
To read more about it and even download it, go to the site ProjectZero.org
I downloaded, let's see if I learn to use it. ![]()
