Oxymoron ...

Posted by: Marcelo Galvani In: Humor | Politics

Oxymoron is, according to the Concise Oxford dictionary, a figure of speech in which words combine opposite directions that seem to be mutually exclusive, but that in context, reinforcing an expression.
For example: the cry of silence, deafening silence, obscure clarity, contentment unhappy, illustrious stranger, and so on.
War College, in another example, is an oxymoron, in the opinion of Millor Fernandes, he said, and the war could not be higher.
It is. Brazil, after all, is even a country oximoroso. The author of the discovery is the teacher of Portuguese Sergio Rodrigues.
There is tremendous oxymoron that does not leave the headlines in recent days:
"Board of Ethics of the Senate"

Benito,

Oxymoron or oxymoron (from the Greek, is composed of "sharp, pointed" and "stupid") is a figure of speech that harmonizes two opposite concepts in a single expression, thus forming a third concept that depends on the interpretation of the reader.

Since the literal sense of an oxymoron (eg, an eternal instant) is absurd, it forces the reader to seek a metaphorical sense (in this case: a moment that the intensity of experience for the same, make him lose his sense of time). The use of this figure of speech is very common in poetry and mystical love poetry, considering that the experience of God or love transcends all worldly antinomies.

The opposite of oxymoron is superfluous.
In Spanish it is called Oxímoron.

Examples of oxymorons
- Innocent guilty
- Lucid madness
- Eloquent silence
- Ice boiling
- Tacit turmoil
- Democratic dictatorship
- Illustrious unknown
- Movement apolitical (For any social movement is political)
